Are you Northern Creative Solutions’ new trustee?
Northern Creative Solutions is a Newcastle-based charity that creates thriving community spaces for positive social change, creativity and collaboration. Our vision is that people and organisations in the North East have good quality and affordable spaces for building communities and creating positive social change. At a time when charities, social action organisations and community groups are struggling, we believe a creative approach is the answer.
Our first project, Broadacre House, is a resource for charities, non-profit making organisations and community artists. We’ve turned the empty six-storey, 40,000sqft city centre office building into a thriving space with offices, bookable rooms and shared spaces on a rates and rent free basis, with occupants paying a low service charge. To date 30 organisations have made Broadacre House their home. The Broadacre House project will finish in December 2017.
We are looking for two additional trustees to join us at this early and exciting time in our development. We’re especially looking for people who share our vision and values, who are committed to community and people, and who are creative, enterprising and brave. We are looking for people who have experience in buildings and property. This experience could be as an architect, surveyor, estate agent, managing agent, planner; with community buildings; or something else.
Our trustee meetings are around two hours every six weeks plus your reading, thinking and preparing time for meetings. We currently meet late afternoon (from 16.00) on a Monday. We’ll expect you to come to our AGM and at least one planning day each year. You’ll also have an opportunity to get more involved in our work if you’d like to and have the time. The usual term of office is three years.
What’s in it for you?
You’ll get experience in leading a new charity, learning new skills and making a difference to charities and not for profit organisations in Newcastle, the people they work with, and to Newcastle itself. We’ll pay your out of pocket expenses.
If you’d like to step on board, ask us for our trustee information pack or download it from NCS trustee information pack 2017, which will give you more information about us and the role, and how to apply. If you’d like to find out more first, we’re happy to have a chat with you, show you what we’re doing and answer your questions, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 0191 222 0146 and we’ll arrange to meet up.
